Top 4 Female Comedians
When the idea of being a comedian, as a full-time profession, arose only men considered becoming a comedian. As time went on, females started becoming comedians. Although it may seem like there is gender equality, in our modern age, there is still a lot of gender inequality, especially with wage gaps in Hollywood. So, to give you an idea of how influential and talented female comedians are, we have created a list of the top four female comedians. Can someone say, "Girl power"?
1.) Sarah Silverman
Finally, the last female comedian on our list is Sarah Silverman. Silverman spent many years as a stand-up comedian, then in 1993 she landed a writing and featured player job on Saturday Night Live. But, Silverman only lasted one season on Saturday Night Live before she was fired. After her run on Saturday Night Live, Silverman became a performer on the show Mr. Show. Then, Silverman was cast in various television and movie roles. In 2005, Silverman created her first concert film, Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. This led Silverman to book more comedic jobs. She even landed her own television sitcom on Comedy Central, The Sarah Silverman Program, which ended after three seasons. Currently, Silverman is expected to star in an upcoming Netflix original, Lady Dynamite.
2.) Amy Schumer
The first female comedian on our list is Amy Schumer. Schumer began doing stand-up comedy in 2004 at the Gotham Comedy Club. Three years after she began doing stand-up, she booked her first stand-up special for Comedy Central. After her stand-up special, Schumer began booking roles for various television shows, especially shows on Comedy Central. In 2013, Schumer created and starred in the Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, which is still on today. Recently, Schumer wrote and starred in the blockbuster film Trainwreck. Trainwreck showcased Schumer's no boundary approach to comedy. In other words, Schumer is not afraid to discuss and joke about every aspect in her life.
3.) Tina Fey
The second female comedian on our list is Tina Fey. Fey is one of the most female comedians. Her comic career began in 1997 when she sent several scripts to Saturday Night Live. She was hired as a writer, but in 2000 she also became a cast member. In 2006, Fey left Saturday Night Live to develop 30 Rock. From 2006 to 2013 Fey helped created, and starred in 30 Rock. After 30 Rock, Fey's next television venture was Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Other than Fey's television success, she has written and starred in many blockbuster films specifically, Mean Girls. Currently, Fey is working on a few upcoming films.
4.) Amy Poehler
This next female comedian is Tina Fey's close friend. Amy Poehler began her comedic career as part of an improve team called the Upright Citizens Brigade. Upright Citizens Brigade became popular and eventually performed sketches on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. After Poheler's run with Upright Citizens Brigade, she joined Saturday Night Live as a full time cast member. Poheler left Saturday Night Live in 2008. Shortly after she left Saturday Night Live, Poheler landed the leading role in Parks and Recreation. Other than Poheler's phenomenal rolls in television shows, she has been in many movies, most notably; Wet Hot American Summer, Baby Mama, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, They Came Together, Inside Out, and Sisters. Today, Poheler continues to act in blockbuster films.
